World Traveler... Sort Of (part two)

Continued...

Day Two

The next day was sunday, so we walked to church.

This is the church praying together.

Worship was so fun, even though I couldn't understand a word.

After church, we went to this little food place (apparently, cars DO NOT stop for you to cross the street in Nicaragua) and had this...
Yum. All fresh. Yup.

Don't you just want to lick the screen?

No?

Okay, moving on.

The next on our to do list was a three hour drive in a 5 seat car with 8 people. Yeaaaaah. That went well.

No, I 'm kidding. It was great.

Except for, ya know, me getting a bruise on my hip from squishing.

Moving on.

So we got to where we were going. The dock.

Yeah that's right, the dock.

We were going on a ferry ride!

BOO-YAH!

Ahem.
This is a monkey that was on the dock.

A sign on the tree:
Peligros
Monos
Bravos

Which loosely translates: Hazard: Brazen Monkeys.

Which loosely translates: no monkey petting. *Sad Face*

Oh well.

We got on the ferry-boat (not fairy-boat) and bought our $1 tickets (about 23 córdobas).

We were off to the orphanage. Which happened to be on an island in the middle of a huge lake.

After an hour of shenanigans...
(Don't hate me Liz ;))

Erm, Yeah....

We got HERE:
Feel free to ooooohhhh and aaaahhh.

You know you want to.

Ta-Da!

We then drove for an hour in a short bus (ha) over a nicely bricked road (suprising) to an turnoff with a not so good road.

As in, "Hold on to your hats, here comes a bump!" road.

When we reached the orphanage, I was, frankly, surprised at how... well off it was.

We also had the best lemonade in THE WORLD...

Ever.

I went to bed.

The sheets were better than mine. I noticed.

End of Day Two

So, what do you think?

World Traveler... Sort Of (part one)

So, since some of you (actually, all of you) have not heard my "Nicaraguan Journey", I decided to do a series of posts and pictures about my 10 day journey.
Here we go...

Day One
Day one was the day of travel. At eight, we picked up Paul and Liz Howey from their house, and began the long trek to the Memphis airport. On the way, we stopped at Fred Fraiser's house (Local honey dude) to buy some honey. I got to go see how they take the honey out of the hives, purify it, and put it in Jars for us to buy.

ANYWAY...

When we got to the airport, I was quite sad and scared to leave my family for ten days to go to a third world country. Understandable, Right? Yeah.

When we went through security, Paul was stopped because apparently, peanut butter to go with your saltines is NOT allowed in your take on luggage. What a shame.

The plane ride to Huston international airport was rather uneventful.

In Huston, we had a 5 hour layover, so I took a nap, got way overpriced Italian food, had deliciousness that is Jamba Juice, and walked back and forth on the moving sidewalks repetitively.
\
Not necessarily in that order.

OOH! And I got my name called over the loudspeaker. That was fun. We had to walk all the way across the terminal (Yay moving sidewalks!) to go to the customer service place.

Turns out, I had left my passport in the bathroom. With all of my money in it.
And a janitor turned it in. THANK GOD.

I met her later... she's a really cool African (not african-american) lady with a beautiful accent. I think she was Rwandan or somewhere around there.

So after the passport fiasco, Paul held on to our passports.

We boarded the plane.

I was bored for three hours.

We touched down. I was in Nicaragua.

Party Time.

Just kidding. It was late, and I was a bit sleepy.
Apparently, you have to pay ten dollars to enter the country. I am still not sure why.

This is at the airport. The climate is like AR, but more humid.

From Left to Right:
Shelby Roberts
Lauren Zimba (I didn't know that was her last name...)
Denis Miranda
Caleb Hudson's back
Paul Howey

So this is some of us.

After this, Paul, Liz, and I were taken to the family we were staying with.

This is our room. My bed is the closest. All of the houses and buildings are open air with tin roofs. So, hot. We had a small fan that you can't see in the photo, and it worked wonders.

And then I went to bed.

This Ends Day One

So, tell me what you think!

Headbands

When I went to Nicaragua, I was faced with a problem.

*cue dramatic music*
My hair.

So, what did I do?
I made headbands.
The did two jobs. One, keeping my hair out of my face. Two,

Covering most of my hair so I didn;t look like I just rolled out of bed.

Trying this is me trying to pry open a coconut.

It didn't work.
Obviously.

But the POINT is, I am wearing my favorite headband. :)

My sister is displaying my first one I made here

Dear Future Self

www.futureme.org/

I found this website while using StumbleUpon. On this website, you send emails to your future self, set a date for the email to be delivered, and hit send. The email will be sent on the date you selected.

It's kind of like a time capsule, but even if you forget, you will still receive it.

Kind of cool, huh?

If you get through the annoying-ness, this is a really fun game. We should try it sometime people.

Somewhere...

Somewhere... over the rainbow
way up high
there's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby...

Somewhere... over the rainbow
bluebirds fly
and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true...

Someday I'll wish upon a star
and wake up where the clouds are far behind
behind me
where trouble melts like lemondrops
high above the chimney tops that's where you'll find me...

Swirly nails

Okay, this is pretty awesome. I'm going to try it sometime. Later. After my current nail polish is gone. Yeeeaaah.
